Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics was originally established in the year of establishment of the college (1963) to offer Under Graduate Mathematics in B. Com. Honours and General courses. Thereafter from the year 1997 this Department imparts Mathematics teaching in B.Sc. general course in addition to commerce course. Honours affiliation is received and introduced in the year 2003. The department of Statistics was established in the year 2001 thereafter and running smoothly under the entire supervision of the Department of Mathematics and offering General course only. These programs have been started keeping in mind the importance of higher education in Mathematics and Statistics for teaching, research and for jobs in both conventional and software industries. These programs aim at giving a strong foundation in the basics of Mathematics and Statistics for motivating the students towards specializations for the research and job oriented field. The department has three whole time teaching posts and there are highly qualified faculty members who are appointed on the recommendation of The West Bengal College Service Commission, with specialization in recent and advanced fields in Operation Research, Advanced Computer Science and Cybernetics, Partial Differential Equation, Analysis, Algebra, Bio Fluid Mechanics, Numerical Analysis, Number Theory etc. One of our faculty member joined the college with Ph.D. degree and others are pursuing Ph.D. works. There are also three highly qualified guest teachers in the department. There are 120 seats for students of mathematics honours.

Academic performance of our students are remarkable. The students fell free to contact the Departmental teachers whenever they are in need apart from class teaching. They spend time in the library with teachers. There are equipped computer laboratory in the college for practical teaching and the students are very much benefited for their individual care by the teachers. Students teacher relationship is also commendable. Many of our pass out students have established themselves in the field of higher education, research work, teaching and other jobs including software works. The administration of our college is always with the Department for its ultimate development to reach the goal and ambition.
